A night to remember
I might as well start off by introducing myself. My name is Marisa and I am an intern at The SHARP Agency. I am originally from the Bay Area, California, and here in Huddersfield on track to receiving my degree in Marketing. It has been full of great experiences here in the United Kingdom to say the least, and attending the Kirklees College Outstanding Learners Awards last week has to be one of the highlights.
Now attending these awards resonates with SHARP and I in ways I can’t really explain in one blog. Creative Director, Richard Sharp, attended Kirklees College and loved his experience. Ever since then, he has been passionate in making sure that the college gets the recognition it rightly deserves. I think it is important and inspiring that Kirklees College brings in companies from the industry to be a part of their events. Sometimes all a student needs is a support system; then watch the magic happen.
SHARP had the two interns, myself and Emma, our creative intern, attend the awards on behalf of the agency and present two students with the Art & Design Award. The event was a great, meaningful, tear jerking night for all. The night started out with dinner (had a Yorkshire pudding for the first time!), followed by a student singing 4 songs, then the awards ceremony. So many students’ stories were told and constant smiles were shown throughout the night. The look on their parents’ faces, their tutors and friends was a look of pure happiness.

As a student, it meant a lot to stand up there as a sponsor and hand over the award. It gave them more of a common ground with me, to talk to me about what it’s like working at SHARP as student intern, and of course the question of “How did you come from California to Huddersfield?!”It means a lot to SHARP to be a part of Kirklees College the way it is, and plans on sticking around for as long as the sky is blue. Well, despite the constant grey skies in Britain…
I am very proud to be a part of an agency, or family per say, that goes to the furthest extent. An agency that will support education the way it does. To put it simply to all the students out there, never let anyone tell you that ‘you can’t do it’, and if they do, make sure to prove them wrong.
What a night to remember…
