Ey up, it’s Yorkshire Day! And to celebrate, we look at 5 reasons why great ideas come from Yorkshire…

The home of creativity

A recent survey from Creative England has revealed that 22 out of the top 50 companies across film, television, gaming and digital media are based in the North of England. And out of those, 10 were from Yorkshire, making it the UK’s biggest region for the creative industries.

Leading the way in digital

One of the UK’s fastest growing industries is the tech market, and Yorkshire is spearheading innovation in the digital sector. In fact, the Leeds tech industry alone contributes £6.5 billion to the UK economy and employs 102,000 people.

Channel 4 moves to the North

To break out of the London bubble, Channel 4 are establishing their new second HQ in Leeds to help boost the way it reflects life outside of the capital.

Building a future

A major world-class studio is being built in Leeds, just 5 mins away from the new Channel 4 HQ, to satisfy demand for TV and film facilities in the North. Following significant growth in the creative sector, Yorkshire will have its very own international production centre.

Championing diversity

We’ve touched on how Leeds is becoming the country’s centre for digital and tech innovation – but it’s also setting up initiatives to increase diversity in the industry, creating opportunities for women and young people, and energising what digital subjects have to offer.

Yorkshire Day is here to stay

As a creative marketing agency based just outside Leeds and in London, we’ve known for a long time that great ideas come from Yorkshire – and now the world is realising it too!
