The Big Sleep Out

On March 9th 2018 our Creative Director Richard took part in The Big Sleep Out to raise money for local homeless charities. He also had the pleasure of providing production support to local filmmaker Alistair Macdonald to make a film of the event. This is their story.

Huddersfield Town fans, and friends Alistair Macdonald of Curlew Films and our Creative Director Richard were both signed up to take part in HTFC Foundation charity event “The Big Sleep Out”. And whilst chatting one evening realised that a film of the event would tell a compelling story and also provide longevity and further awareness for the campaign.

So they volunteered their time to HTFC Foundation to make it happen.

Alistair filmed, wrote the soundtrack and edited the film, with production support and on-the-night interviewing from Richard. Alistair said, “It was a privilege to make this film and to tell the story of a great cause. I hope it helps bring yet more recognition to the brilliant work by HTFC Foundation”. Richard added, “Big Sleep Out was a humbling experience, and the willingness of so many people to be interviewed and filmed was an inspiring example of the incredible local community we all live in.”

About The Big Sleep Out

On Friday 9th March, Huddersfield Town Football Club Chairman Dean Hoyle, along with 150 other fundraisers, took part in the inaugural ‘Big Sleep Out’ at The John Smith’s Stadium, raising well over £40,000 for local homeless causes. Dean, alongside Town Foundation Trustees Janet Hoyle, Sean Jarvis and Ann Hough, joined local dignitaries and supporters to brave the outdoors to raise money for local homeless causes, including local charity Huddersfield Mission.

Participants were asked to raise £100 to take part, with 100% of all money raised going directly to the help causes, with any cost of the event covered by Huddersfield Town Chairman Dean Hoyle. The evening began with fundraisers descending on a rainy John Smith’s Stadium to begin preparations for a night of braving the elements in one of the stands. Participants were given the option of sleeping either on the concourse or on the floor of the stand, with most opting to sleep between the seats overlooking the playing surface at the Stadium, which was gloriously lit up by the heat lamps on the pitch.
